In the City of Grande Prairie, 39 new COVID-19 cases were reported today (May 4), and 26 people recovered. The active total is 478 with 2,911 recoveries.  

In the County of Grande Prairie, 16 new cases were added, and 17 people recovered. There’s now 191 active cases and 1,007 recoveries.

Provincially, Alberta reported 1,743 new cases from 14,585 tests completed and our positivity rate is about 12 per cent. Right now, 23,623 cases are active in the province. With 1,719 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 172,931. 

There’s 671 people in the hospital with the virus, with 150 of these in intensive care. This is 13 more hospitalizations than reported yesterday and four fewer ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 93 people in the hospital with 16 of these admitted to intensive care. 

Alberta has reported nine more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 2,099 since the start of the pandemic.  

There’s been 876 more cases of variants of concern found. Of the active cases, 14,728 or 62.3 per cent, are variants. In the North Zone, 2,033 variant cases are active and 2,338 have recovered.  

There have now been 1,668,455 vaccine doses administered, with 303,509 Albertans fully immunized with two doses.
