In the City of Grande Prairie, 30 new COVID-19 cases were reported, and 30 people recovered. The active total is 479 with 2082 recoveries.

In the County of Grande Prairie, 13 new cases were added, and 9 people recovered. There’s now 207 active cases and 639 recoveries.

Peace Region totals:

Provincially, Alberta has reported 1,136 new cases today (April 12) from 12,286 tests completed and our positivity rate is about 9.2%. Right now, 14,849 cases are active in the province. With 575 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 145,171.

Alberta had an R value of 1.12 from April 5 to 11. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 1.18, Calgary Zone was 1.08 and the rest of Alberta was 1.13.

The R value, also known as the reproduction number, describes whether cases are currently increasing, decreasing or staying the same. It tells us average number of people that someone with COVID-19 will infect.

There’s 390 people in the hospital with the virus, with 90 of these in intensive care. This is 14 more hospitalizations than reported yesterday, and the same number of ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 37 people in the hospital with four of these admitted to intensive care.

Alberta has reported five more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 2,018 since the start of the pandemic.

There’s been 679 more cases of variants of concern found. Of the active cases, 7,620, or 51.3 per cent, are variants. In the North Zone, 883 variant cases are active and 203 have recovered.

There have now been 864,941 vaccine doses administered, with 177,560 Albertans fully immunized with two doses.
