In the City of Grande Prairie, 29 new COVID-19 cases were reported, and 28 people recovered. The active total is 480 with 2110 recoveries.  

In the County of Grande Prairie, eight new cases were added, and 11 people recovered. There’s now 204 active cases and 650 recoveries. 

Peace Region totals: 

Three more Grande Prairie COVID-19 outbreaks were reported by Alberta Health today, including Canadian Brewhouse, Reed Energy Group and Royal Camp Services. Canadian Brewhouse has 12 total cases, with 10 active and two recovered. Reed Energy has 10, all active. Royal Camp Services also has 12, with nine active and three recovered.

Other current Grande Prairie outbreaks: 

  • Canadian Brew House, Grande Prairie: 12 cases (10 active, 2 recovered)  
  • Rotary House, Grande Prairie: 27 cases (3 active, 24 recovered)  
  • Stepping Stones South Daycare, Grande Prairie: 5 cases (all recovered)  
  • Tourmaline Oil Musreau, Grande Prairie: 17 cases (all recovered)  
  • Walmart, Grande Prairie: 15 cases (2 active, 13 recovered) 

Outbreaks in the area: 

  • Michels Canada, Valleyview: 17 cases (all recovered)  
  • Peace River Bible Institute, Sexsmith: 12 cases (all recovered)  
  • Peace River Correctional Centre: 83 cases (all recovered)  
  • RCCC Simonette Lodge, Valleyview: 22 cases (2 active, 20 recovered) 

Provincially, Alberta has reported 1,081 new cases today (April 13) from 11,965 tests completed and our positivity rate is about 8.9%. Right now, 15,087 cases are active in the province. With 840 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 146,011. 

There’s 402 people in the hospital with the virus, with 88 of these in intensive care. This is 12 more hospitalizations than reported yesterday, and two fewer ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 38 people in the hospital with four of these admitted to intensive care. 

Dr. Hinshaw says that hospitalizations and cases are increasing province wide, and if the growth does not slow soon, there may be more restrictions put in place.  

Alberta has reported three more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 2,021 since the start of the pandemic.  

There’s been 705 more cases of variants of concern found. Of the active cases, 7,910, or 52.4 per cent, are variants. In the North Zone, 903 variant cases are active and 256 have recovered.  

There have now been 955,725 vaccine doses administered, with 185,182 Albertans fully immunized with two doses.
