Alberta has reported 582 new cases of COVID-19 today (March 8) from 13,571 tests completed and our positivity rate sits at 6%. These cases were reported over the last two days.

Right now, 4,633 cases are active in the province. The recovered total has reached 129,566.

There’s 254 people in the hospital with the virus, with 36 of these in intensive care. In the North Zone, there’s 32 people in the hospital with one of these admitted to intensive care.

Alberta has reported six more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,920 since the start of the pandemic.

Sixty more variant cases of COVID-19 have been found, over the last two days, for a total of 659. There have been five total found in the North Zone since testing for the variants began.

There have now been 297,692 vaccine doses administered, 4,309 new, with 91,027 people fully immunized with two doses.

Alberta had an R value, or reproduction number, of 0.95 (0.91-1.00) from March 1 to 7. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 1.02 (0.94-1.10), Calgary Zone was 0.95 (0.89-1.02) and the rest of Alberta was 0.90 (0.85-0.97).

In the City of Grande Prairie, 28 new cases were added over the last two days, and 20 people recovered. The active total is 227 with 1501 recoveries.

In the County of Grande Prairie, seven new cases were added, and three people recovered. There’s now 69 active cases and 423 recoveries.
