In the City of Grande Prairie, 22 new COVID-19 cases were reported today (May 10), and 19 people recovered. The active total is 507 with 3,117 recoveries.  

In the County of Grande Prairie, eight new cases were added, and 10 people recovered. There are now 172 active cases and 1,093 recoveries.

Provincially, Alberta reported 1,597 new cases from 13,921 tests completed and our positivity rate is about 11.5 per cent. Right now, 25,438 cases are active in the province. With 1,349 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 182,832. 

Alberta had an R value of 1.00 from May 3 to May 9. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 0.96, Calgary Zone was 1.06 and the rest of Alberta was 0.94.   

The R value, also known as the reproduction number, describes whether cases are currently increasing, decreasing or staying the same. It tells us average number of people that someone with COVID-19 will infect. 

There’s 690 people in the hospital with the virus, with 158 of these in intensive care. This is 22 more hospitalizations than reported yesterday and three more ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 96 people in the hospital with 15 of these admitted to intensive care. 

Alberta has reported seven more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 2,117 since the start of the pandemic.  

There have now been 1,916,957 vaccine doses administered, with 318,841 Albertans fully immunized with two doses.
