Alberta has added 355 new cases of COVID-19 today (Feb. 1), from about 7,300 tests completed, for a positivity rate of about 4.9%.

Right now, 7,387 cases are active in the province. With 463 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 115,527.

There’s 556 people in the hospital with the virus, with 102 of these in intensive care. This is five fewer hospitalizations than reported yesterday, and one more ICU admission. In the North Zone, there’s 63 people in the hospital with seven of these admitted to intensive care.

Alberta has reported 10 more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,649 since the start of the pandemic.

There have now been 106,347 vaccine doses administered. More than 16,200 people have received both doses and are fully immunized.

Alberta had an R value, or reproduction number, of 0.83 (0.81-0.87) from Jan. 25 to Jan. 31. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 0.74 (0.70-0.80), Calgary Zone was 0.83 (0.80-0.89) and the rest of Alberta was 0.90 (0.85-0.96). The province is updating the R value on Mondays. This number shows whether cases are currently increasing, decreasing or staying the same (ie. the average number of people that someone infected with COVID-19 will infect).

In the City of Grande Prairie, 10 new cases were added, and 14 people recovered. One more death was reported. The woman who died was in her 80s and connected with the outbreak at Prairie Lakes Supportive Living. The active total is 151 with 1021 recoveries and 21 deaths.

In the County of Grande Prairie, five new cases were added today, and four people recovered. There’s now 48 active cases and 305 recoveries.
