Alberta has added 459 new cases of COVID-19 today (Jan. 27), from about 12,900 tests completed, for a positivity rate of about 3.6%.

Right now, 8,203 cases are active in the province. With 896 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 112,558.

There’s 604 people in the hospital with the virus, with 110 of these in intensive care. This is 22 fewer hospitalizations than reported yesterday, and two fewer ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 72 people in the hospital with eight of these admitted to intensive care.

Dr. Hinshaw says, "From the peak of 943 people in hospital on December 30th, we have declined to 604 today. From a high of 155 ICU admissions, we are now down to 110. This is encouraging news, and a signal that we are making meaningful progress. Every one of us should take pride in this.”

On the other hand, she also says we have just as many people in the hospital with COVID-19 today as we did on Dec. 4, when our acute care system was under strain. The continued strain impacts everyone who needs care, not just those with the virus.

"Everyone should know that if they are in need of urgent care, that care is available. To keep it that way, it is essential that we keep the restrictions in place for a little while longer, so we can ensure care is readily available for all Albertans across the province, whatever their health needs are.”

Alberta has reported 12 more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,599 since the start of the pandemic.

There have now been 101,123 vaccine doses administered. More than 11,000 people have received both doses.

In the City of Grande Prairie, 12 new cases were added, and 18 people recovered. The active total is 160 with 952 recoveries.

In the County of Grande Prairie, one new case was added today, and two people recovered. There’s now 43 active cases and 291 recoveries.
