In the City of Grande Prairie, 13 new COVID-19 cases were reported today (March 22), and eight people recovered. The active total is 156 with 1728 recoveries.

In the County of Grande Prairie, five new cases were added, five people recovered and one death was reported. The man in his 70s died on Saturday (March 20) and had pre-existing condition(s). This is the fourth COVID-related death in the County. There’s now 60 active cases and 500 recoveries.

Peace Region totals:

Provincially, Alberta has reported 456 new cases from 7,547 tests completed and our positivity rate sits at 6.1 per cent. Right now, 6,176 cases are active in the province. With 246 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 134,246.

Alberta had an R value, or reproduction number, of 1.14 (1.10-1.18) from March 15 to 21. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 1.13 (1.05-1.21), Calgary Zone was 1.23 (1.17-1.29) and the rest of Alberta was 1.05 (0.99-1.11).

There’s 280 people in the hospital with the virus, with 48 of these in intensive care. This is two fewer hospitalizations than reported yesterday, and one more ICU admission. In the North Zone, there’s 22 people in the hospital with three of these admitted to intensive care.

Alberta has reported five more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,968 since the start of the pandemic.

One-hundred-ten more variant cases of COVID-19 have been found for a total of 1,711. There have been 35 total found in the North Zone since testing for the variants began, four of which are new.

There have now been 487,493 vaccine doses administered, with 93,414 people fully immunized with two doses.
