Alberta has added 269 new cases of COVID-19 today (Feb. 8), from about 6,200 tests completed, for a positivity rate of about 4.3%.

Right now, 6,196 cases are active in the province. With 314 more people recovering, the recovered total has reached 119,130.

There’s 432 people in the hospital with the virus, with 76 of these in intensive care. This is two fewer hospitalizations than reported yesterday, and five fewer ICU admissions. In the North Zone, there’s 53 people in the hospital with seven of these admitted to intensive care.

Alberta has reported five more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,710 since the start of the pandemic.

There were 25 more COVID-19 variants found over the weekend. Of the 96 U.K. variant cases, 46 have not been linked to travel. Dr. Hinshaw says no spread of the variants has happened in schools. She also says they are screening most, if not all, of COVID-19 tests for the variants.

There have now been 120,357 vaccine doses administered. More than 29,000 people have been fully immunized with two doses.

Alberta had an R value, or reproduction number, of 0.87 (0.83-0.90) from Feb. 1 to Feb. 7. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 0.82 (0.76-0.89), Calgary Zone was 0.82 (0.77-0.87) and the rest of Alberta was 0.96 (0.90-1.03). Our cases are continuing to trend downwards.

In the City of Grande Prairie, 12 new cases were added, and one person recovered. The active total is 166 with 1084 recoveries.

In the County of Grande Prairie, five new cases were added today, and one person recovered. A death was also removed from the total, which is now at three. There’s now 39 active cases and 332 recoveries.
