Erika Beck, a first-year Business Administration student at Grande Prairie Regional College and lifelong Teepee Creek area resident, is this year’s recipient of the County of Grande Prairie’s $500 Ron Pfau Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship was virtually presented during Monday's (Feb. 22) Council Meeting.

Council awards the scholarship annually to a County resident or former resident of the County whose parents/guardians still reside in the municipality and is pursuing post-secondary education in Alberta. Studies must be in the fields of business, commerce or public office administration. Applicants are selected based on several criteria, including academics, community, athletic or cultural involvement, and other personal achievements.

Examples of Erika’s community involvement include taking on leadership roles with the Kleksun 4-H MultiClub, volunteering for local food drives and highway cleanups, preparing meals for seniors, and more. She has also played on several school sports teams and demonstrated academic achievements throughout secondary school.

“Erika’s leadership qualities, academic drive, and commitment to the wellbeing of her community make her an outstanding candidate for this scholarship,” said Reeve Leanne Beaupre. “The County is proud to support her future educational goals and wishes her the best in her future plans.”

“I am honoured to have received this scholarship from the County of Grande Prairie,” said Beck. “It will help me cover the costs of textbooks and resources required to complete the Business Administration program. Thank you for providing residents with this great opportunity.”

The County offers the $500 scholarship in memory of long-time County administrator Ron Pfau.

Applications for the 2021 Ron Pfau Scholarship are being accepted until Oct. 31, 2021. For further criteria and information, and to apply, visit www.countygp.ab.ca/ronpfauscholarship.
