The Grande Prairie Public School Division is pleased to announce Kayla Kolosky as their Edwin Parr Nominee for the 2022-2023 school year.

The Edwin Parr Award is an annual award presented by the Alberta School Boards’ Association recognizing outstanding first-year teachers across the province.

“Kayla is a warm and positive personality,” explains Cindy Clarkson, Principal, Crystal Park School. “Her Kindergarten students are very lucky to have a nurturing teacher who also has high expectations for their learning.”

Ms. Kolosky embraces the opportunity to celebrate diversity in her classroom. She purposefully chooses literacy and readaloud activities to ensure all her students feel represented. As an extension, she invites community members like GPPSD’s Indigenous Liaison to share their stories with her students and her classroom celebrates culturally relevant holidays.

“We see the evidence of Ms. Kolosky intentionally establishing relationships with parents and guardians,” shares Sandy McDonald, Superintendent of Schools at GPPSD.

“This kind of work allows teachers and families to have effective and collaborative conversations surrounding individual children and the supports they need to succeed in their own unique ways.”

“Above all, her Kindergarten students feel safe and supported in expressing themselves in her room,” adds Clarkson. “We are very proud of her work and dedication to being an approachable and collaborative educator.
