The Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools Education Foundation will be helping to feed families and our local homeless shelters throughout Summer 2020.

The GPCSD Education Foundation has been delivering homemade frozen meals to the families’ doorsteps since the closing of schools in March 2020 with the support of Alberta Education Nutrition Funding and community donation. Over 6,500 meals were made in the St. John Paul II Catholic School commercial kitchen delivered to students and their families. They also provided meals for Rotary House and the Parkside shelter.

During this state of emergency, the Foundation was granted additional funding from the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta - ECSF grant and the United Way - ECSF grant, bringing the total funding up to $104,420. They’ll deliver homemade frozen dinners, breakfast meals, as well as other essential products.

GPCSD Education Foundation Executive Director, Kari Prichard, says, “As Catholics, we have a call to serve, we wanted to make sure families and those in need had meals this summer. No one should ever feel hungry especially when we can help. It’s beyond the right thing to do, it’s our calling and drive, we look forward to helping out.”
