The City of Grande Prairie is now offering a new GP Grows: Dig It program that provides Grande Prairie residents a 5-litre root pouch, Yukon Gold potato seeds and a triple mix soil to grow and harvest potatoes at home.

GP Grows: Dig It builds on the previous success of GP Grows and positive feedback from the community. The program provides residents with an opportunity to experience the benefits of gardening and to provide a free and fun activity everyone can enjoy.

To participate, pick up your supplies in-person on May 14 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Grande Prairie Activity & Reception Centre at 9401 Park Road. There is no registration for this program and supplies are first-come-first-served.

City staff will be on-site explaining step-by-step how to start an at-home potato garden successfully.

Triple soil mix helps plants thrive by providing a mix of one-third soil, one-third peat moss and one-third compost. The moss and compost create an airy soil that holds more air and water than topsoil, creating a great environment for your plants.

Everyone participating in GP Grows is encouraged to share photos of their gardens on social media using the hashtag #GPGrows.
