The Grande Prairie Catholic School Division will be sending a request to the Province to construct a new 400 student school on the current St. Patrick School site.

On January 29th, the Alberta government asked the Grande Prairie Catholic School Division (GPCSD) if a replacement school would be an option instead of a modernized school. On January 31st the tenders were all rejected and the modernization was cancelled by the Deputy Ministers. The decision delayed the project by 15 months.

On February 6, 2020, the Superintendent of the GPCSD met with Alberta Education staff and a few ideas were presented.

The first option was building a new 400 student school on existing St. Patrick land and the second to build the school on existing Ecole St. Gerard land. The last option was to use the existing $17 million to partially modernize the Ecole St. Gerard Modular Classroom wing.

A letter was sent out to GPCSD Stakeholders on February 12, encouraging them to provide their input and feedback. On February 13, another letter was sent out via Social Media to Stakeholders with additional information.

The Board of Trustees approved a motion to "change to the St. Patrick Catholic School Modernization Project, requesting the Province to construct a new 400 student school on the current St. Patrick School site."

In addition, they moved to "designate the O’Brien Lake West School as a school for English programming."
