The Grande Prairie Museum, Heritage Discovery Centre, Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, and Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre invite all members of the community to join in free events and activities on Sunday, August 29 to commemorate International Museum Day.

Each facility is featuring free admission and activities from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Free shuttle service is available between all locations with service every 40 minutes.

Leading up to the event, a virtual scavenger hunt is also taking place with all locations participating from August 20 - 29. Participants can play at their own pace competing in challenges to earn points and enter for a chance to win great prizes.

Feature Exhibits

• “Recycling Then & Now”, at the Grande Prairie Museum to show how people have recycled since ancient times to now for a variety of reasons from saving the environment or out of necessity during wartimes

• “And They’re Off: A History of Sport in Grande Prairie”, at the Heritage Discovery Centre to trace the history of sports in the community, including the first baseball game in Grande Prairie that took place in 1910 - a year before the City was even founded!

• “The Burgess Shale Quilts”, at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum showcasing a series of quilts inspired by the strange creatures of the Burgess Shale

• “Species at Risk”, at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum about species at risk in Alberta

• “Operation Northwest Alberta Soldier”, at the Veterans Memorial Gardens for visitors to explore what life was like for soldiers during WWII.
