In today’s daily COVID-19 update, Dr. Hinshaw reported 5,076 recoveries and 1,211 active cases.

There are currently 70 people in the hospital and 11 in ICU.

Out of 4,072 tests in the last 24 hours, 62 new cases have been identified.

There have been no new cases identified in the City or County of Grande Prairie.

Dr. Hinshaw reported an outbreak at the Horizon work camp managed by Canadian Natural Resources. There have been five cases confirmed at the site. Alberta Health Services is working with the company to manage the outbreak.

Five cases is the threshold that outbreaks are disclosed at as five cases shows there has likely been transmission at the site.

Testing is being offered to all employees, including those without symptoms. Dr. Hinshaw is confident that the spread can be contained since all measures are being taken to do so.

Today the province also announced that we will proceed with phase one of our relaunch tomorrow May 14. Dr. Hinshaw says that she fully supports this decision.

Information for businesses on relaunch is available at alberta.ca/biz-connect.

Dr. Hinshaw reminded Albertans that business owners who do not feel they are ready to re-open tomorrow are welcome and encouraged to take the time they need to open safely. She reminds Albertans to not be critical of these businesses who don’t open right away.
