For the second consecutive year, four Prespatou residents travelled all the way to the Operation Christmas Child processing centre in Calgary to help children in need.

Steve and Dara Reimer, Simon and James Loewen spent Nov. 25 inspecting Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes before they were packed in cartons and transported to Central America, west Africa, Philippines and Ukraine. There, they will be given to children who, in many cases, have never received a gift in their lives.

“It’s a fact that not everybody gets to receive gifts the way we do,” said Dara, 30. “God asks us to serve and this is a pretty good opportunity.”

Dara has been packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes with toys, school supplies and hygiene items for 25 years, off and on.

“I like making sure kids get gifts—especially the ones who’ve never gotten even one their entire lives.”
