The City of Fort St John announced today (Sept. 1) that City recreational facilities will be re-open starting Sept. 8 after more than five months of being closed.

The Pomeroy Sport Centre and Visitor Centre and Kids Arena Fieldhouse will open Sept. 8, the North Peace Leisure Pool will open Sept. 19, and the North Peace Arena will open in October on a date still to be determined.

With needing to decrease capacity, skate and swim times will need to be pre-booked up to one day in advance by calling the Pomeroy Sport Centre at 250 785 4592 or the North Peace Leisure Pool at 250 787 8178. Online booking will be coming soon.

The re-openings are part of the City moving to Phase 3 of their Recreation & Leisure Services Recovery Plan. Programming will re-start gradually, beginning with essential programs like first aid and lifeguard training.

These procedures will be in place:

  • Review and understand the COVID-19 Recreation Procedures
  • Follow the instruction of signage and workers throughout all recreational facilities
  • Remain at least 2 meters apart from others not within your household or immediate contacts
  • Bring any health and safety concerns to the attention of a City employee
  • Cover mouth and nose with elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze
  • If you are feeling unwell, or have travelled outside the country, stay home
