A film based on a true story about a modern-day resurrection has won big at the 50th annual Dove Awards.

Executively produced by Reverend Samuel Rodriguez, Breakthrough, shares the story of 14-year-old John Smith who was pronounced dead after breaking through ice and falling into a lake. This story moved the masses and because of that, has been awarded 'Inspirational Film of the Year'.

This Is Us actress Chrissy Metz stars as Joyce Smith, John’s mother. In a scene where John’s heart immediately starts beating as a response to his mother calling out to God to save her son’s life, it is clear this movie showcases bold faith. After a brief two weeks, John baffles experts and predictions by miraculously walking out of the hospital.

The movie landed at No. 3 during its opening weekend which reportedly provided 20th Century Fox with its first profitable film of the year.
