The Government of Canada is giving Canadians more time to file and pay their taxes this year, as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. You'll have until June 1, 2020 to file your taxes.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will defer its filing due date for the 2019 tax returns of individuals and certain trusts . Trusts with a taxation year ending on Dec. 31, 2019, the new due date for filing returns has been moved back to May 1. 

The government will allow people to defer their income tax payments until after Aug. 31, 2020 and before September 2020, with no interest or penalties. Some taxpayers may have received a Notice of Assessment that says the deadline for payment is April 30, 2020, the deadline has also been extended to September 1, 2020.
