A family trip to Holden Beach has turned into a story of miraculous healing.

The Floyd's had traveled to North Carolina for a family vacation, but tragedy struck when their 12-year-old son, Levi, never resurfaced after a dive into the waves, reports CBN News.

Levi's father, seeing that he hadn't come up for air, ran into the water to try and reach him. But Levi was not breathing when he was pulled by his father out of the ocean.

"There was nothing," said Levi's mother, Lyndsey Floyd. She shared that at this point, Levi's body had turned blue, "like he wasn't even a person."

A nurse, Floyd's cousin, was also at the beach that day with the family. She quickly went to work on Levi, performing CPR, but was unable to resuscitate the boy.

A former Duke Life Flight nurse, Derek Gibson, was also present on the beach. When he saw what was going on, he hurried to help, quickly applying his training and experience from working for the critical care and emergency air team.

“You could tell he wasn’t breathing," said Gibson, sharing that he wasn't sure Levi would survive the day. He and Floyd's cousin continued to perform CPR in attempts to get Levi breathing again.

At that point, Levi's family began singing and praying to God on Levi's behalf. They continued to do this, getting louder, until finally, Levi began to breathe.

“I just remember running to them, ‘sing louder babies, just worship Him louder. Sing louder,'" the boy's mother shared. "As I ran back to Levi, I hear Derek yell, ‘There’s a pulse.'”

Levi says now that he remembers hearing some of the singing and cries to God from his family that day on the beach. "They were like ‘Jesus, please let him be OK.”

Gibson's conclusion on the incident is that Levi's life today is nothing less than a miracle.

“Talking to that little boy and knowing he’s gonna be OK … that will stay with me forever,” he said.
