On Aug. 13, 2023, just after 9 p.m., Evansburg RCMP responded to a collision involving a SUV and a train.  The SUV was southbound on highway 22 when it pulled out and passed several vehicles that were waiting for the train to clear the tracks. Both the crossing arms and flashing lights were engaged. The SUV collided with the moving train and caught on fire.

Due to some quick acting members of the public, the lone male occupant was removed from the vehicle and was taken, in serious condition, via STARS, to an Edmonton hospital where he remains in serious condition.

The matter is still under investigation by the Evansburg RCMP.

The Evansburg RCMP would like to thank the members of the public who pulled the driver to safety and provided immediate first aid.
