Inter-provincial travel is common for Albertans in the warmer months, with residents often visiting family or staying at vacation homes in other provinces.

Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw was asked whether or not it'll a possibility this summer during Wednesday's update.

According to Hinshaw, she has been in talks with her counterparts in other provinces regarding inter-provincial travel.

She says it'll ultimately come down to the numbers.

"Some of the recommendations will depend on how many cases we have in Alberta, how many cases other provinces are seeing, and so while we continue to have those conversations, it will be impacted by our ongoing success in keeping our numbers down throughout our relaunch process."

Talks seem to be early at this point, as Hinshaw says there's no time-frame as of yet.

"A conclusion or a timeline has not yet been reached, so my current recommendation with respect to this coming weekend or the near future would continue to be that we would recommend against inter-provincial travel at this time."

For now, the nearest milestones for the province are June 1st, in which Calgary and Brooks will be permitted to reopen the remaining stage one businesses, and June 19th, the tentative date for stage two of the relaunch.

Currently, the provincial travel is listed as "not recommended" in the province's relaunch strategy.
