Deadline For Non-Profit Groups To apply For Capital Assistance And Major Capital Grande Approaching

The County of Grande Prairie is encouraging local non-profit groups to apply online for the capital assistance and major capital grants programs before this year’s September 15 deadline.

“The new application process for the Recreation and Culture Grants Program is simple, streamlined and easier than ever, both for the County and community groups,” said Christine Rawlins, Parks and Recreation Manager. “We’ve received positive feedback from groups who have already applied, and our upcoming grant information sessions will assist any organizations who need direction or would simply like a hands-on tutorial.”

The capital assistance grant program provides financial assistance to non-profit organizations that own or operate facilities that provide recreational, sports and cultural opportunities to County residents. Applicants can apply for up to 50 per cent of the total cost of a project, to a maximum of $50,000. Major capital grants assist community based, not-for-profit organizations undertaking significant improvements to their local facilities or building new facilities in the County of Grande Prairie that will improve quality of life for residents. This grant is for requests over $50,000.

Several organizations including the Beaverlodge Boys and Girls Camp Society and the Sexsmith & District Agricultural Society have been provided with capital assistance grants in the past, which have helped cover the costs of facility renovations and improvements. The Bezanson Agricultural Society, La Glace Agricultural Society, Hythe & District Recreational Society recently received major capital grants to help build new recreation or upgrade existing recreation and community facilities.

To assist non-profit groups with the new online application process, the County will be holding Grant Information Sessions on August 29 from 5 – 7 p.m. and September 5 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the County Community Services Building located at 10808 - 100 Avenue in Clairmont. Potential applicants are encouraged to register for the sessions by contacting the Parks and Recreation department at parksandrecreation@countygp.ab.ca or by phone at 780-532-9727. Community groups that do not have access to a computer or smart device with internet or are unable to attend the sessions can alternatively book a one-on-one appointment through the department.
