In her update, Dr. Hinshaw also clarified a point on outdoor gatherings. She says the new ban means that things gathering in a park or at a bonfire are not allowed. On the other hand, outdoor recreation up to ten people is still allowed where social distance can happen. She reminds Albertans to follow the spirit of the rule and not look for loopholes. For example, she says not to go skiing with a group of friends when you can go with your household.

It was announced today the first shipment of vaccine will arrive in Alberta Dec. 16, and the 3,900 doses will go to ICU doctors and nurses and long-term care staff. It will be given in two doses, approximately one month apart.

The first dose is only available at the location where the vaccines will be received, in Edmonton and Calgary. Facilities in those cities have been chosen for the first doses.

Minister Shandro says they are working on the date of the next shipment with the federal government, which will likely happen later in December.

Dr. Hinshaw says the arrival of the vaccine is positive, but also reminds Albertans it will be some time before everyone can get it. For now, we need to follow public health mandates, and be the vaccine for each other.
