In Alberta today, 860 new cases COVID-19 were found from over 15,000 tests, bringing the active total to 8,305.

Hospitalizations are at 225, seven more than yesterday, with an increase of five intensive care admissions to 51. Ten more Albertans have died, for a total of 393 since the start of the pandemic.

Dr. Hinshaw says that we have passed the 5% threshold of growth in hospitalizations in the last two weeks in rural zones at 7%.

In the update today, Premier Kenney also spoke about the stress our health care system is under because of community spread. He says that 30% of elective surgeries in the Edmonton Zone have already been postponed recently. With COVID-19 challenging the province’s ability to deliver other health care, some new targeted measures were announced today that will be in effect for two weeks.

Measures will be in place for those regions under “enhanced status”, with extra measures in place for certain cities, including Grande Prairie.
