Police are advising the public to be wary of email scams piggybacking off of the fear created by COVID-19.

Police say victims will receive an unexpected email notifying them that they have likely been contaminated by the coronavirus. The email then asks the recipient to provide a credit card number to pay for the shipment of preventative medication.

Anyone receiving such emails or calls is encouraged to ignore them and delete them.
