On Saturday, Sept. 12, administration at Peace Wapiti Public School Division was advised by Alberta Health Services (AHS) that a case of COVID-19 had been diagnosed in an individual from Whispering Ridge Community School (WRCS).

A letter was sent to all WRCS families over the weekend explaining the situation.

In the letter they said they won’t be releasing the name of the person infected out of respect and in line with AHS guidelines.

“At this time, we ask that you model care and kindness when speaking about this situation to your children at home, and in the community, recognizing that this virus can infect anyone at any time.”

WRCS also advised families that all close contacts would be contacted directly by AHS and school would continue in-person for all those who were not a close contact. The school also underwent an additional deep clean yesterday. WRCS says that the zones and cohorts put in place at the school worked as planned and helped with contact tracing.

In the letter they also reminded parents to go through the symptom screening checklist every morning with their kids and reminded staff, visitors and volunteers to do so for themselves.
