Residents and businesses in the County are encouraged to bring wood debris, branches and deadfall to the County’s annual FireSmart Wood Waste Clean-up events on June 4 and June 11 for free disposal.

“Our goal in hosting these events is to help property owners take steps to protect their homes and families from the risk of wildfire,” said Ken Atamanchuk, Fire Marshal. “A single spark can ignite dry and dead wood material found near structures on your property and in your yard. Collecting this debris annually and dropping it off at the clean-up events for proper disposal is a simple, and effective step property owners can take to prevent fires.”

The events will take place:

·Saturday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunridge Estates, located on Township Road 712 east of Range Road 51.

·Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dunes West, located on Township Road 704 south of Highway 40. Drop-off at the Biathlon Training Centre parking lot.

Regional Fire Service staff will provide information at the events and answer questions about the FireSmart program and emergency preparedness.
