Due to the warm, dry conditions and the extreme fire hazard, a County-wide fire ban will be put into place effective Wednesday, May 22, at 2:00 p.m.

The fire ban includes the Towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, Wembley and the Village of Hythe.

Under the fire ban order, all existing burning permits are revoked, and no new permits will be issued until the ban is lifted. No outdoor fires are permitted until further notice, including burning barrels and fireworks, nor are recreational fire pits or charcoal barbecues allowed. The use of propane appliances, such as barbecues, is permitted.

Due to the potential for accidental ignitions, the use of motorized equipment such as ATVs and dirt bikes is not suggested during times of high wildfire risk. For industries, open pit flaring is suspended.

Failure to comply with the fire ban may result in a $5,000 fine as well as significant charges for the cost of responses.

The fire ban will remain in effect until weather conditions change and the area receives a significant amount of precipitation.
