Long-time Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Bill Rogan has announced plans to retire in 2019 after 24 years with the County of Grande Prairie.

Rogan started with the County in April of 1995 as the Superintendent of Public Works. Before joining the County, he spent 20 years with Alberta Transportation, the Ministry of Highways at the time. Rogan was appointed as Chief Administrative Officer of the County in 2001.

“I’ve been fortunate to have worked with many outstanding staff members and elected officials throughout the years who were committed to the County and our residents,” said Rogan. “Leading the County through a period of significant growth while supporting our neighbouring communities in their development has been the most rewarding part of my career.”

As CAO, Rogan has been an instrumental part of developing the County of Grande Prairie into the municipality it is today. Some highlights of his tenure include the development of the Aquatera partnership; expanding programs and services for residents; enhancing safety and security throughout the County by investing in the Regional Enforcement Services and Regional Fire Service departments; and the construction of world-class facilities like the Crosslink County Sportsplex and the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum.

“Bill has been a strong leader, visionary and a mentor for Administration and Councillors during his time as CAO,” said Reeve Leanne. “He has worked diligently and faithfully for the County, and we wish him the best in his retirement.”

County Council will be selecting an executive search firm to assist in filling the position by summer 2019. Rogan will stay with the County until a replacement is chosen.
