On Saturday, July 16, the construction zone on 100 Street adjacent to the Prairie Mall is extending, resulting in construction on 100 Street between 132 Avenue and 116 Avenue.

The work results in the southbound lanes being closed and the northbound lanes facilitating two-way traffic on 100 Street between 128 Avenue and 116 Avenue.

The inner turning lane on 116 Avenue eastbound to 100 Street northbound is closed.

Periodic closures of the intersection of 124 Avenue and 100 Street will occur as the project progresses.

Background

The extension is part of an existing project upgrading the old bypass. The City inherited the old Highway 43 Bypass from Alberta Transportation in 2019. As part of the hand over the City was provided $20 million from the Province.

The Transportation Master Plan was adopted in 2020 and includes recommendations for the City’s traffic, roads, and active transportation networks.
