Yesterday, November 2ist, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place for the new Community Kitchen, a collaborative project between the Friendship Centre and the Salvation Army.

The Kitchen will improve the health and well-being of many individuals and families by providing daily, hot and healthy meals. Additionally, the project aims to bring people together to socialize and learn which will increase their sense of belonging. Through this collaborative effort, there will be a centralized, single location for service which will provide a greater degree of efficiency by reducing the expenses required in the operation of two kitchens.

The planning for the community kitchen started last December with a $72,000 grant from the city.

For now, the program will run five days a week with hopes to later extend it to seven days a week in the future, from 7 am to 7 pm.

The City shared their congratulation on the opening of the Kitchen. They are proud to be a part of making it happen.
