On April 1st, 2022 at 3:47pm Dawson Creek RCMP received multiple reports of a severe accident involving two vehicles at the round-about located at the intersection of Alaska Avenue and 8th Street in Dawson Creek. Police, firefighters and paramedics attended the scene and located a taxi (Ford Escape) and a Ford F150 pickup truck which were both critically damaged indicating a high speed impact.

Police interviewed multiple witnesses and reviewed video surveillance of the area leading up to the accident which indicate a 2022 black Ford F150XLT pickup was driving westbound on Highway 49 toward the round-about at a high rate of speed. The Ford F150 is believed to have lost control as it struck a lamppost and was viewed to be driving on the railway tracks for a period of time. The Ford F150 cut across the round-about and impacted the driver side of the taxi which was travelling southbound and about to enter the roundabout.

The 60 year old male driver of the taxi was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision, while the 44 year old female passenger of the taxi received serious non-life threatening injuries. The 54 year old female driver of the Ford F150 pickup was also transported to the local hospital with serious injuries.

Police investigation and clean up of the scene lasted several hours into the evening of April 1st and morning of April 2nd. The investigation is ongoing. The Dawson Creek RCMP would like to thank the community members and witnesses who aided in the investigation and encourage anyone else who witnessed the accident and have not yet spoken with the police or those that may have dash camera footage of the involved black F150 to contact the Dawson Creek RCMP.
