As winter approaches, the City of Grande Prairie is gearing up for the transition into winter operations. Our dedicated snow clearing and ice control crews are prepared to respond to any forecasted snowfall, ensuring safe and accessible roadways for all residents.

Full winter operations are scheduled to begin on November 5, 2023. The City of Grande Prairie conducts snow removal in three different ways:

• Priority Road Clearing - Plowing and ice control of roadways with high traffic volumes (Priority One roads) to ensure access for emergency vehicles, transit buses, and residents. Plowing and sanding of Priority Two and Three roads occurs upon completion of Priority One roads.

• Residential Road Clearing - Plowing and ice control of residential roads when snow accumulates or when there is a significant snowfall. Occurs in a two-week rotation only when declared. For enhanced accuracy and predictability, residential snow clearing is scheduled based on a "Week A" and "Week B" rotation, allowing residents to know when to expect snow removal services in their neighbourhood.

• Rural Service Area Clearing – Clearing and ice control of 40 km in the Rural Service Area on an as-needed basis.
