The City of Grande Prairie is hosting in-person and online information sessions on Nov. 23 and 24 for the community to learn more about a proposed rezoning for a potential Community Supportive Housing project. 

Community Supportive Housing aims to end the experience of homelessness for people who face barriers by helping them achieve housing and personal stability. This is through providing approved tenants the direct support services they need for success in maintaining permanent housing. 

The City is working to develop a 42-unit facility and is considering two locations, one in the Gateway area and one in the Avondale area. Rezoning the property will help the City to meet funding application requirements, if it chooses to move forward with the site. 

The proposed zoning is a site-specific zone called a Direct Control District. The district would allow for the use of ‘Permanent Supported Housing’ and designates City Council as the authority for approving any development permits. 

Administration is seeking input from the public to help shape regulations for the district and to provide to Council as part of their information package when they consider the rezoning. 

Information Sessions 

The project team is hosting a series of information sessions to provide the public with more information about the projects, answer questions and collect community feedback to present to Council. 

The in-person sessions are being held on Monday, Nov. 23 in the Wagner Room at Service Plus Inns & Suites (10810 – 107 Ave) from 3:00 p.m.- 7:45 p.m. Due to physical distancing and group size limitations, interested participants must register in advance for one of the 45-minute sessions. 

Online sessions will be hosted using Zoom on Tuesday Nov. 24, 2020. There is an afternoon session available at 3:00 p.m. and an evening session at 6:00 p.m. Attendees will receive a hyperlink and other connection options for the meeting in their registration confirmation e-mail.
