The City of Grande Prairie is launching a new “GP Connected at Home” initiative to provide free activities and entertainment for residents during physical distancing and facility closure restrictions.

“GP Connected at Home” includes the following:

Virtual Museum

Take a virtual tour through the Grande Prairie Museum’s featured exhibits and Heritage Village buildings as they share photos and videos of their collection. It is a great way to discover more about history right from the comfort of your own home. New videos will be added regularly.

2:00 p.m. Tunes

Throughout April and May, Revolution Place hosted past musical acts and local talent to provide daily livestreamed performances. All of these performances have now been archived on the City of Grande Prairie’s YouTube channel for the community to stream anytime they like in order to continue to enjoy the great music.

GP Creates

The City is partnering with the Centre for Creative Arts, Art Gallery of Grande Prairie and Grande Prairie Public Library to bring residents of all ages at-home art kits with two projects to create: a pop-up paper landscape and an owl marker painting project. The kits include materials for two art projects and aim to provide artists of all levels the opportunity to explore their creative side.

Registration for kits is available at cityofgp.com/gpcreates, and will be available on a pick-up basis only. Kits are available to all residents of the City of Grande Prairie, with a limit of one art kit per household. Kit quantities are limited and are expected to run out quickly. Registration is open June 17- June 22. Pick-up times are available Tuesday, June 23 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 24 from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Teresa Sargent Hall in the Montrose Cultural Centre.

The City encourages participants to share their creations on social media using the hashtag #GPCreates.

GP Grows

The City’s GP Grows project has introduced three new ways for residents to engage with nature this season while sowing and reaping the rewards of growing their food. Indoor gardens, backyard root vegetables and community orchards with fresh fruit will be sprouting up around the City this season. Residents can visit cityofgp.com/gpgrows for tips on growing their own gardens, and details on how to enjoy our many community orchards located across the city.

#GPActive Neighbourhood Challenge

Explore your community’s various green spaces and trail systems by taking part in the Grande Prairie Neighbourhood Associations #GPActive Neighbourhood Challenge. Watch for daily posts on your Grande Prairie Neighbourhood Association (GPNA) Facebook page to get in on each daily challenge and Facebook share a picture post using the hashtag #GPActive. All ages are encouraged to join in this fun challenge to stay active while physically distancing.
