The City of Grande Prairie and County of Grande Prairie invites residents to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, at the Montrose Cultural Centre in Teresa Sargent Hall. The family-friendly drop-in event runs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature engaging learning opportunities, demonstrations from local businesses and activities for residents of all ages.

Highlights of the event include an interactive presentation on bee-friendly native plants and noxious weed identification, GP Grows Seed Bar where residents can select from 13 different seed varieties for their customized garden, information on clean energy and an interactive scavenger hunt.

Located in the Rotary room within Montrose Cultural Centre, event attendees can view a Bee City webinar while decorating themed cookies and interacting with a live hive full of bees to learn about pollinators.

Head to ‘Electric Avenue’ located just outside of the Montrose Cultural Centre on the south concourse and for an electric vehicle showcase featuring a City of Grande Prairie electric bus and local electric vehicle owners.

In addition to the exciting activities and demonstrations, guests can interact with local organizations including Aquatera, Co-op and ATCO about their various sustainable practices and environmental stewardship initiatives within our communities.

“We are pleased to invite residents and their families to celebrate Earth Day and to explore environmentally friendly programs and initiatives,” says Reeve Bob Marshall, County of Grande Prairie. “This event is a great opportunity to learn about how each one of us can make small changes in our day-to-day that have a positive impact on our communities and in our natural environment.”

"As we celebrate Earth Day, it's important to remember that protecting and preserving our environment today is essential for a healthy and sustainable planet for generations to come," said Mayor Jackie Clayton, City of Grande Prairie. "Small changes at home today can lead to big changes in our communities over time, and you have the power to make a real difference by reducing your waste, conserving energy and making eco-friendly choices in your daily life. By working together, we can identify and implement environmentally friendly solutions to everyday issues in our communities."
