The member of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds team who died in a crash Sunday afternoon has been identified as Capt. Jennifer Casey.

In a tweet Sunday evening the Canadian Forces Snowbirds confirmed that Casey was the victim of the crash in Kamloops, BC, during the Snowbirds Operation Inspiration. The team had been crossing Canada for two weeks in an effort to boost the country's morale in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another Snowbirds member who was in the same jet as Casey was able to eject before the crash. He landed on the roof of a home and has serious, but not life-threatening injures. The tweet names Captain Richard MacDougall as the injured member.

"Our thoughts are also with the loved ones of Captain MacDougall. We hope for a swift recovery from his injuries."

Casey was the Snowbirds Public Affairs Officer. Her biography says she "spent several years working in broadcast radio as a reporter, anchor, and producer in both Halifax, NS and Belleville, ON," before joining the Canadian Armed Forces in August 2014.

She spent time as the Public Affairs Officer at 8 Wing Trenton, the Royal Canadian Air Force’s home of air mobility. She spent the 2018 season with the CF-18 Demo Team, travelling North America and the United Kingdom with the NORAD 60 jet.

She reportedly joined the Canadian Forces Snowbirds in November 2018. Casey was originally from Halifax, NS.
