The Canada-U.S. border closure to non-essential travel has been extended to Oct. 21, 2020.

Bill Blair, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, confirmed the extension this morning on Twitter.

He says, "We will continue to base our decisions on the best public health advice available to keep Canadians safe.”

The border was first closed to all non-essential travel by the U.S. and Canadian governments on Thursday, March 21 in response to the spread of COVID-19 and has been extended on a monthly basis since.

The extension means travel across the border for things like tourism and recreation are still not permitted.
