Peace Regional RCMP responded to the community of Cadotte Lake, Alberta on December 20, 2019 at approximately 1:40 p.m in response to a report of a male in possession of firearms and a stolen sport utility vehicle, who had threatened to shoot bystanders after he'd been confronted. Police located the vehicle in Cadotte Lake a short time later and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled upon being approached. Police contained the area and conducted a search that resulted in the vehicle being located in a nearby field. As police approached, the suspect vehicle again attempted to flee, but became stuck in the snow. The occupants, including two adults and several youth were subsequently taken into custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, Skyle Brady Laboucan (19) of Cadotte Lake, has been apprehended on outstanding warrants for his arrest and has additionally been charged with multiple criminal offences including uttering threats, assault with a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited from doing so, operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a firearm while prohibited from doing so (x2), and unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2).  He has been remanded into custody following a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Peace River Provincial Court on Jan. 13, 2020. The remaining occupants have been released without charge at this time.
