Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, and Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, issued a joint statement on COVID-19 in B.C.

They announced 50 new cases for 278 active. Recoveries total 3,168. Currently, five people are in the hospital with two of these in intensive care. Two more cases were found in the Northern Health region. There was one new death, in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, for a total of 195 deaths in B.C.

Dix and Dr. Henry want British Columbians to stay safe this August long weekend.

“We can make this B.C. Day holiday weekend one where we find the right balance: having those important social connections with our friends and family, while taking precautions to protect ourselves and those around us.”

This includes keeping groups small and giving everyone enough space. They’ve a playbook for how to safely have fun online at goodtimes.gov.bc.ca

“We all want to keep COVID-19 low and slow, and your actions make the difference. Throughout B.C., people are doing what it takes to keep our firewall strong, and we thank you for what you are doing today, tomorrow and every day this summer.”
