Joy Dawson, a well-known missionary and author, has died at the age of 96.

Dawson was a staple in Youth With A Mission (YWAM), which described her as "one of God's Generals," in a social media post announcing her death. Dawson died Thursday, July 21, from natural causes according to reports.

Joy and her husband Jim were originally from New Zealand. They had committed to mission work in 1970, and her Bible-teaching ministry and missionary journeys to her to 55 countries on every continent her website says.

She often spoke at spiritual leadership conferences and was also known for ministries on radio and television. Her books include Forever Ruined for the Ordinary; Influencing Children to Become World Changers; and How to Pray for Someone Near You Who is Away from God.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2013.
