Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Grande Prairie are looking for mentors, especially male mentors.  Executive Director Corrine Patterson says around 40 youth between the ages of six to 18 are on the wait list.

“We are always looking for mentors, but it seems that we're perpetually looking for male mentors. We have a really hard time tracking down men that have the time to give back to the community. We have a real need for male mentors in the city.”

She added that any women who would like to help are also always welcome to volunteer.

The mentor commitment involves spending a couple hours a week with a youth.

“We just want somebody that is community minded. Someone that wants to give back. A couple hours a month can really make a difference in a child’s life.”

They also have a new multi-purpose facility that can be used to hang out, with things to do for a fun filled evening.  Big Brothers Big Sisters GP also has access to free Storm tickets, movie passes, and other activities, so the mentor doesn’t always have to pay out of pocket.
