Grande Prairie, AB – Beaverlodge Regional High School (BRHS) will open its doors to the province on Thursday as host of the 2018 Senior Girls 3A Volleyball Provincial Games, a three-day event running during Thursday - Saturday, November 22-24, 2018.

Principal Anna Nelson says 25 years have passed since BRHS last hosted this event.

“We are excited to host the games and we welcome the community to join us in cheering on the teams and celebrating their accomplishments,” she adds. “We have received an outpouring of support from community businesses who have donated their time and funds to ensure the success of this tournament.” Ms. Nelson says the process of securing the games started more than a year ago. She expresses gratitude to BRHS teacher, Girls Volleyball Coach and Tournament Chair Erin Martin for her efforts, as well as the school staff and community volunteers who have given countless hours to make this event a reality.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the province’s best 3A-level female volleyball players to Beaverlodge,” says Coach Martin. “Many of our students are involved in this event, so it’s an incredible opportunity to showcase the talent and citizenship that make BRHS special.”

Joining the Beaverlodge Regional Royals for competition will be the St. Joseph Catholic School Ceinhas and the Peace Wapiti Academy Titans from Grande Prairie; Morinville Community School Wolves; Edmonton Christian School Lions; Crescent Heights Vikings from Medicine Hat; Brooks Composite High School Buffalos; Calgary Christian School Cougars; Cochrane High School Cobras; Camrose Composite High School Trojans; Cold Lake High School Royals; and the Eagle Butte High School Talons.

As the host school, BRHS was responsible for liaising with the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association (ASAA) office, setting up and coordinating sub-committees, booking facilities, scheduling, assigning officials, advocating and enforcing the ASAA bylaws and policies, and producing the provincial championship information package, programs and website. The games will kick off with an opening ceremony in the BRHS gym beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 22.

The ASAA requires two full volleyball court facilities, which BRHS will fulfill on its own court, and by running some games at St. Mary Catholic School, also in Beaverlodge.
