B.C. reported 817 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, from Friday to Sunday.

There are 2,325 active cases of COVID-19 in the province 10,734 recoveries. Right now, 77 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, with 26 of these in intensive care.

Three more British Columbians died, for a total of 259 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

There were 12 new COVID-19 cases reported in the Northern Health region over the weekend, and cases are active. There’s been a total of 366 recoveries.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer, reminds British Columbians about the limit of 50 on social gatherings, with sufficient space to maintain social distancing. This distance can’t usually be accommodated in homes. She says there’s been an increase in transmission and new cases because of gatherings in people’s houses.

A new provincial health officer has been out in place limiting gatherings in private homes to no more than your immediate household, plus six others. This is a provincewide order that applies to all homes for all occasions.

“Enforcement will be stepped up to ensure people are following this new order, with the immediate focus on the Fraser Health region, where the increase in new cases is most notable.

“Just as religious leaders throughout the province have so strongly supported our provincial response, so we are calling on community leaders to do the same in order to help your communities do the right thing as we work to address this global pandemic.

Dr. Henry says they also expect that people will wear masks in all indoor public spaces.

“Now is the time for all of us to work together – while staying apart – to slow the spread of COVID-19, and always keeping our groups small and using our layers of protection is the best way for us to do that.”
