Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, and Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.'s provincial health officer, issued a joint statement June 22 on the COVID-19 response in British Columbia.

From June 19 to June 22, the province identified 32 new cases, for a total of 2,822, 2,471 of which have recovered. Currently 14 people are hospitalized, with six of these in intensive care. There are no active cases in the Northern Health region.

There has been one new death in the Fraser Health region, for a total of 169 deaths in the province.

They remind British Columbians of the importance of social distancing and keeping mass gatherings small. The limit of 50 on gatherings will be in place until an effective treatment or vaccine is found. No matter the circumstances, this order applies to everyone.

“Phase 3 will gradually allow for more types of activities, but how we interact with each other does not change. We have to remember that when the virus is anywhere, the risk is everywhere, and, as a result, we must remain cautious.”

Some guidance was provided for travelling safely this summer.

This includes being respectful of communities you visit and recognize that some towns and regions are ready to accept visitors with safety measures in place while others are not able to yet. If someone gets sick while travelling, they’ll have to self-isolate immediately and contact the public health to get tested and get direction on whether to isolate in place or go home.

Travelers need to plan ahead and be prepared. This means finding out what services are available before you leave and bring as much supplies as possible.

“As you travel this summer, please remain vigilant to protect others, recognizing there are vulnerable people everywhere. Be understanding, take care of each other and let’s continue to do our part to protect our province and ourselves by protecting each other.”
