B.C. reported 998 new cases of COVID-19 from Nov. 7 to 9, for 4,891 active cases in the province.  

Currently, 133 people are hospitalized, with 43 of these in intensive care. Right now, another 9,179 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases and 13,425 people have recovered. 

In the Northern Health region, eleven new cases were reported over the weekend, and 45 are active. One person is in the hospital and two in intensive care. There’s been 421 total recoveries. 

Five more British Columbians have died, for a total of 281. 

There is an ongoing outbreak at Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek, which was first declared on Nov. 2 with a single staff case.  

On Nov. 6, Northern Health said that additional lab-confirmed cases had been found, meaning the outbreak will not be declared over until there are no further exposure concerns from laboratory-confirmed cases, for a period of 28 days (two consecutive 14-day COVID-19 incubation periods). 

There are currenty seven residents and four staff members at the Rotary Manor with COVID-19. 

Health Officials say in the update that “Enhanced control measures are in place, as well as additional supports for the facility to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents.” 

These measures are in place: 

  • Non-essential visitors are restricted throughout the facility 
  • Staff and resident movement in the facility has been restricted 
  • Cleaning and infection control measures have been enhanced 
  • Residents, families and staff are being notified and regularly updated 
  • Frequent screening of all staff and residents 
  • Expanded hours and staffing at Fort St. John Hospital laboratory for COVID-19 testing 
  • Expanded testing for residents and staff with symptoms of illness 

There are a few school exposures listed for Northeast B.C. If you have a student at any of these schools, no action is required unless you’re contacted by Public Health or directed by the district. Schools are removed from the list about one month after the last exposure date.

  • Fort Nelson Secondary School: exposure date Oct 15-16 
  • Notre Dame School in Dawson Creek: exposure date Oct 13-14
