On Monday, Jan. 18, B.C. reported a total of 1,330 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. There are now 4,326 active cases in the province and 54,656 recoveries.

Of the new cases, 166 were in the Northern Health region, which has 531 active cases. In the area, 2,311 people have recovered, and 52 total deaths have occurred since the start of the pandemic. Currently, 40 people are hospitalized in the region, with 16 in critical care.

Provincially right now, 343 people are hospitalized, with 68 of these in intensive care. There were 31 more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,078 since the start of the pandemic.

To date, 87,346 people have received a COVID-19 vaccine in B.C. The province has adjusted their immunication program with the news of the temporary reduction in Pfizer vaccine supply in Canada. They’ll keep working on getting vaccine to staff and residents of long-term care, starting dose two at 35 days.

A vaccine dashboard is now available on the B.C. Centre for Disease Control website.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, and Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, remind British Columbians that the risks remain high, even with immunization underway.

“The COVID-19 vaccines are incredibly effective, greater than what we see in the vaccines for many other illnesses. But right now, it is our individual efforts that have the biggest impact.

“Regardless of the virus variant, we stop the spread in the same way we have done since the start of the pandemic. We have the tools and it is in our control.

“Let’s show each other that we remain committed to doing our part to keep everyone safe, to protect our seniors and Elders who have not yet had the vaccine, our neighbours and loved ones.”
