On Jan. 4, B.C. reported 2,211 new cases of COVID-19 since Dec. 31. The active total is now 6,823.  

Right now, 351 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, with 76 of these in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation. 

There’s been a total of 45,229 recoveries. 

Of the new cases, 169 were in the Northern Health region. Currently, there’s 498 active cases and 1,649 people have recovered. Of the active cases, 19 people are hospitalized with 16 in critical care. There’s been a total of 30 deaths. 

Provincially, there were 45 COVID-related deaths since Dec 31, for a total of 946 since the start of the pandemic.  

As of Jan. 3, 24,139 people have received a COVID-19 vaccine in British Columbia.  

Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, and Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, say, “Our approach is to maximize distribution, while balancing supply – vaccinating as many high-risk people as possible in this initial period.” 

They remind British Columbians to continue to be diligent in fighting the virus.  

“It may be a new year, but the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over, and we all need to continue to do all we can to keep ourselves and those around us safe. 

“We want 2021 to be our year of success with COVID-19, so let’s all resolve to continue to do our part to get through this storm.”
